Wax Control
|
 |
APPLICATIONS » Crude oils with significant percents of paraffin components will have a high pour point (> 25 C). Such oils, even though often they are light, high gravity oils, will gel if not kept at an elevated temperature. If these oils fall below their pour point they will become solid and can completely block flow quickly.
Crude oils with even relatively low paraffin content still may create a thick wax deposit over a long period of time. Wax deposition depends on the crude oil composition (the oil Wax Appearance Temperature, WAT) and the system temperatures. Wax deposition causes a gradual decrease in the inside pipe diameter and so restricts flow.

Waxflow L series of Pour Point Depressant (PPD) products can substantially decrease the pour point PPD of any crude oil. ChemEOR can recommend a specific Waxflow L product that is optimum for a specific crude oil. Properly selected, the PPD added at only a low dosage will reduce the pour point substantially. PPD treatment allows an operator to produce and transport such challenging crude oils without requiring expensive methods to heat the oil above its untreated pour point. |

ChemEOR has an advanced measurement system to evaluate the performance of wax inhibitors, the Spinning Disk Apparatus, Figure 1. In this device crude oil (100 ml) is placed in the vessel. One water bath controls the bulk fluid temperature, another controls the cold plate temperature. An impeller rotates at a speed to create a flow regime that mimics that in a flow line. At the end of the test wax deposit on the cold plate is removed and weighed.

Waxflow N products exhibit superior performance to other commercial wax inhibitors. The results are reported for tests performed with the same crude oil and run temperatures and elapsed time. The percent inhibition (percent decrease in deposit as compared to a Blank test with no inhibitor) is greater than competing commercial products tested. |
