Corrosion Inhibitors

The most common reason for corrosion in oil and gas production systems is the presence of acidic conditions driven by the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which are acid gases. Corrosion rates generally will increase with higher acid gas concentrations, pressure, temperature, and brine salinity. Even modest corrosion rates are a concern because that is still a threat to metal materials where ideally the service life is many years without failure.

Corrosion inhibitors are applied to coat the exposed metals with a protective chemical film in the producing well and the surface facilities so as to minimize corrosion rates. Corrosion inhibitors may be applied downhole or in the surface facility in a continuous fashion or as a batch treatment.

Extensive laboratory testing shows that ChemEOR corrosion inhibitors exhibit excellent metal protection and have superior performance compared to other commercial products. Optimized based on traditional corrosion inhibitor amine chemistry, ChemEOR CI series products introduce multiple absorbing centers with nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur and phosphorus atoms, which can form a tough, persistent film on metal surfaces blocking the corrosive conditions even in high flow. Additions of small amounts of ChemEOR CI product can give good corrosion inhibition, even when severe corrosive conditions are anticipated, such as when utilizing air-drilling techniques, or in the presence of CO2 or H2S gases. It is compatible with common oilfield brines. Applications are versatile throughout oil/gas wells, facilities, pipelines and storage tanks. Both CI intermediate and final products are available.

Applications
  • • Used by continuous dosing in oil/gas wells or flow lines.
  • • Used periodically by “slug” or “batch treatments” pumped down the wells or flow lines.
  • • Used in air, mist, foam or aerated mud drilling and in all water-base muds.
  • • Solvent and oil soluble, water dispersible.
  • • Thermally stable to more than 300°F (149°C).
  • • Recommended treatment is 20-50ppm, can be diluted with various solvent.
